Have you wanted to try a golden hour photoshoot but worry about it being too late?
I try to schedule all my family, maternity or couple photoshoots for an hour before sunset. In the summertime days can be extremely long in Manchester with some sunset shoots starting at 8pm.
I know parents can be nervous about taking their children out of a routine or keeping them up on a school night. But, I can tell you from my own experience it is totally worth making it to the magical hour (I recently kept my kids up who are 6 and 2 for our own family photoshoot at 8pm in a June)
My advice is to treat it a bit like you would on holiday night, it’s a one off occurrence. Not something that’s going to cause havoc with routines.
1.Prepare them. Explain to them that they are going somewhere they can run about (I like to pick locations where they can explore)
2. Bring lots of snacks. My two like haribo but mash mallows are also good (easy to wipe away & not messy like chocolate)
3. Keep it short. I like to let the kid’s lead in family photoshoots but I also work pretty quickly as I know they can lose attention and there is the added challenge of the light
If you’re interested in a family photoshoot you can see more from my latest family photoshoots here. I’m on hand to help with outfit choices or locations; I have a selection of locations which I use regularly in and around Manchester and Cheshire. My availability varies so please make sure you book well in advance.
